So tonight is our last date in Holland. Tomorrow, Owen flies to Ireland for some promo and the rest of band and crew head to London for an XFM session on Friday. These dates with BBR have been great BUT the last couple of days (weeks) have been so full on that we’re all looking forward to some travel days to try and pull ourselves back together before the UK dates next week. This weekend though we’re recording the next single with Gil Norton. That’s a pretty big deal for us. He’s worked with the Pixies, Foo’s, Ben Kweller, Maximo Park etc. So that should be cool.
We’re in Nijmegen now. Trying to avoid the cold. Trying to avoid the bats. The van doors opened and everyone seemed to walk off in different directions. Like lost indie Zombies. Looking for liquid. Brains rattling. Nijmegen kind of looks like Coleraine in NI. It’s the first time in weeks that we’ve been reminded of home and to be honest it’d be nice to go into Belfast, meet some friendly faces and maybe go to Gigantic or Blackout. But thats a month away. And as these booze blues are shaken off with a nights sleep we’ll be glad to be in London or Manchester or Calais or Dublin or Austin where ever we’ll be in the next couple of weeks.
It’s Enda’s 21st Birthday today and to celebrate we’re staying in….Schipol Airport! Well, a hotel at Schipol airport but it’s still not the best way to spend a 21st so please send him some love if you’ve got him on facebook etc. Him and our tech got kicked out of the biggest casino in Holland at the weekend. They didn’t appreciate the burping and headwear apparently.
So if you read the last blog you’d know we stole a rubber chicken and we’re going to take it round the world with us. Well, apparently this taking pictures of an item all around the world and posting the pictures back to the owner of the item has been done before. The movie Amelie to be exact. It’s pretty much the whole point of that movie. But it’s not a rubber chicken it’s a Gnome. I’ve never seen Amelie before (I saw very brief highlights in Dutch as proof last night). So wasnt to know. But we’re still going to do it. No doubt we’ll lose the chicken, within days. It’ll be like when we bought a tonne of US sweets with the last of our dollars from the ‘Shy video shoot in NY and left them in the f****** cab.
So that’s it. Mainland Europe done. For now. We have some really nice European festival action coming in for later in the Summer which we can talk about soon so we’ll be back. In the mean time. Hopefully we can see you in the UK next week!!
